Xbox can't advertise Destiny

Clever, backhanded ad points out Xbox can’t advertise Destiny

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you will have heard that this year’s (or any year’s) biggest game release, Destiny, is about to happen on September 9th (only 1 day and 12 hours left!!!). You might have noticed, however, that despite the game coming out on Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3 and PS4, advertisements everywhere have centred pretty heavily on the Sony consoles’ release, with Xbox ads almost non-existent. As we know, Bungie and Sony have cosied up closely for this release with exclusive PS4 console and game bundles, leaving Microsoft’s console out in the rain. So close is that relationship that Xbox can’t advertise Destiny at all, a point it hilariously pointed out in some ads in the U.K. this week (see above). Xbox U.K. this week posted a series of advertisements promoting a new perfume called “Destiny“. Of course, there is no perfume, but presumably the opportunity to ...

Destiny Launch gameplay trailer

The official Destiny Launch gameplay trailer takes off, makes the wait to release a little less painful

If there’s anything that was widely felt after the Destiny Beta, it was that the official release of the game on September 9th was much too far away. Now that the game is only 16 days, 8 hours and 55 minutes away (not that I’m counting), Bungie and Activision have decided to satiate our hunger for the game a little more by releasing the official Destiny Launch gameplay trailer. Check it out below: Quite a lot of the gameplay clips we’ve spotted at one time or another in some of the other Destiny trailers – as well as many of the press quotes – but for many of the faithful, they could have made a trailer made of completely re-used clips and we would still be happy. The one thing that this trailer does do is pull together all the bits of the game that they have been teasing separately for some time ...

Activision is considering getting into the entertainment business with game-inspired movies and TV shows

Video game movies have a notoriously bad reputation in the entertainment industry. Often, they fail to capture the essence of the game they were based on and other times they are just downright weird (ahem, Super Mario Bros.). This seems almost counter-intuitive seeing as most games are almost feature length pieces by themselves, so you would think their bombastic action and carefully scripted stories would transfer well to the big screen. Well, Activision is hoping they might be able to buck the trend after it was reported that they are looking at starting a studio that would make movies and TV shows based on their gaming franchises. This seems to be becoming more of a trend lately, with 343 Industries and Microsoft teaming up to push the Halo: Nightfall mini-series as a way of filling out the Halo lore while gamers await the release of new games. Whether Activision is planning ...

Call of Duty Advanced Warfare multiplayer

Jetpacks and tsunamis: Call of Duty Advanced Warfare multiplayer revealed in new trailer

We were promised Call of Duty Advanced Warfare multiplayer footage, and Activision and Sledgehammer Games have delivered. Today, the multiplayer trailer for this year’s Call of Duty entry was released, and what an explosive and intense trailer it is. Check it out below: Jetpacks and tsunamis – that is all. But on a more serious note, it looks like developer Sledgehammer Games has really taken the Call of Duty multiplayer formula – which by all accounts was getting a little stale – and has injected it with some much needed innovation in the form of new futuristic weapons and a heavy emphasis on jetpack movements. Even the maps shown in the trailer are a breath of fresh air, particularly the map where a tsunami arrives and the fights can be taken into the water. There’s definitely a lot to get excited by in this latest Call of Duty, which for this ...
