There’s been a long standing debate about screen sizes on mobile devices. The Apple iPhone has always been a couple of steps behind Android in terms of display size but the Apple iPhone 6 is rumored to change all this. Expected in fall of this year, the iPhone 6 is supposed to be larger, faster and stronger and may finally give the competition something to think about.
Recent rumors are pointing to a couple of size variations in the works. A 4.7 inch and a 5.5 inch display are coming according to an article from Macrumors. You can also find lots of mock-ups around showing what people are expecting or wish they could be. You can check out one video from Mac Otakara which the featured image on this article is taken from.
Apple is know to produce an amazing looking display for their iPhones, but is the display any better than current Android phones or is it because its smaller, it just looks crisper due to the reduced pixel sizes.
“Beauty is in the eye of the beholder” as they say. I have to admit that the screen on the iPhone 5 is incredibly clear. My wife has one for work and while I have no chance of using the tiny on screen keyboard, looking at photos on the screen is very pleasing to the eye.
The iPhone 5s (shown above) has a 4-inch display with a 1136 by 640 pixel resolution. This equates to 326 ppi (Pixels Per Inch). So while the pixel density is very high given a very clear picture, its still a little on the small side.
With slowing sales and the lead Android devices now have over the iPhone, Apple has to produce something special in the iPhone 6. If Apple can increase the display size of its iPhone 6 significantly, while still producing the display quality of its smaller brothers and sisters, it going to be a phone that’s worth looking at.
I’ve always been an Android user as I’m the kind of person who like s to tinker around a lot. Android gives me that satisfaction. I’ve been told that a Jailbroken iPhone can give you some of that satisfaction, but I’ve never had a chance to try it out. Maybe someday I will when the device gets big enough that I can type easily on the keyboard.
Are you eagerly awaiting a larger iPhone or doesn’t the size bother you?
